A Positive Message of Nondiscrimination...

A story of accepting others regardless of color, thread-count or country of origin.

The Lonely Socks finally answers that age-old question surrounding the millions of missing socks around the world. We’ve all had that experience of folding laundry and suddenly discovering a missing sock. Where did they all go? Behind the dryer? Stuck by static electricity to a sweater that’s now stored away for the summer? Sometimes they turn up and other times they just seem to be lost somewhere in a parallel universe!

Our main character “Mr. Blue” is sad because his counterpart is missing. When Super Sam, an 8-year-old boy, overhears his mother in the laundry room referring to Mr. Blue as a “lonely sock” he takes this to heart. The imaginative Super Sam puts on his cape, climbs over mountains of laundry and makes a daring rescue. Mr. Blue comes to life on the floor of Sam’s bedroom after being placed over an inanimate object. We learn that Mr. Blue sure would like another sock to hang out with.

Our superhero executes several more lonely sock rescue missions with military-like precision. He creatively places each over an inanimate object magically bringing them all to life (imagine Toy Story with the characters being created by Sam). We now have a society of socks (and a few other garment folk) arranged in a circle on the floor. Problem solved, right? None of them can claim to be lonely now, correct? Well…not exactly…

We learn that Mr. Blue is a bit snobby. He and the other solo socks begin to reject each other because of their differences. We see them reject each other based on differences such as color, thread count, country of origin, and more. Sound familiar?

The discord eventually dissipates with the help of three spiritually enlightened garments, Recycled Rickey, Suzie Sarong and Tie-Died Tammy. The members of our little society begin to observe their thoughts. They discover the truth of what is really behind the rejection of others such as; the habit of comparing ourselves to others, feeling threatened by the unknown, social conditioning and low self-esteem. Eventually they all begin to see what they have in common with each other instead of their differences. Through the process of their unconditional self-acceptance they begin to accept each other. Finally, we see the citizens of Sockville let go of their unhealthy viewpoints and a beautiful harmonious society is formed.

But wait! There’s a twist! Super Sam makes one last and final rescue and you’re sure to be surprised by the outcome...
